| Fort Mississaga was built by the British at the end of the War of 1812. It is situated at the mouth of the Niagara River, between the town of Newark and Lake Ontario. It became the main British base in the area. Some of its buildings were built of bricks salvaged from the town of Newark after it was burned by the Americans on December 10, 1813. |
