| Fort Lee was an irregular fort at the western end of the causeway leading to Winter Island near Salem, Massachusetts. Built at the beginning of the War of 1812, its guns commanded all of Beverly Harbour and part of Salem Harbour. It remained under constant alert throughout 1814 when it was feared the British Navy planned to attack Boston. |
