| Old Fort Castine was a long-established fort on the eastern side of Maine's Penobscot Bay. When British Admiral Griffith's fleet approached it with a sizable number of soldiers in September of 1814, the Americans evacuated it. It was thereafter garrisoned by British soldiers until the end of the war. |
