On June 28, 1814, the American ship Wasp seized the British Frolic after a brief firefight. Unfortunately for the American warship, the British HMS Poictiers forced the Wasp to surrender only minutes later, a fact that victory-starved American journalists and cartoonists habitually omitted when depicting the event.
