NortheastAlthough not as contested as
countries to the south and west, this region was the key to the survival
of British North America. If the United States had succeeded in cutting
the British St. Lawrence River supply route at Montreal, all of Upper
Canada would have fallen into American hands. Support for the conflict
was uneven on both sides of the Northeast border region. Vermonters supplied
the British Army with supplies, while no one knew how Lower Canadas
