Movements at Frenchtown
After the fall of Fort of Detroit, William Henry Harrison sent Brig. Gen. James Winchester and a handful of inexperienced officers to establish a camp in the Maumee River rapids. Against Harrison's orders, Winchester decided to advance to the hamlet of Frenchtown. Henry Procter, commander of the British forces in the Detroit River region, organized a counterattack. On January 22, the American troops were decimated by a superior British/First Nations force.
