| Capitalizing on their naval superiority on Lake Ontario in the spring of 1813 Americans invaded the Upper Canadian capital at York. The British were outnumbered and ill prepared to receive the Americans. Though the U.S. army took control of the town, the British army under Major General Roger Sheaffe escaped almost intact, robbing the Americans of a decisive victory. |
