The Affair at La Colle Mill
In the spring of 1814, Major General James Wilkinson heard that 2,500 soldiers had strenghtened a British position at La Colle Mill. Eager to verify the rumour, Wilkinson crossed into Canada. Despite the superiority of his opponent, he ordered his artillery to open fire. He finally realized that his guns were having little effect on the British fortification and withdrew.
