Siege and Defence of Fort Erie
After the battle at Lundy's Lane in July 1814, the Americans were determined to maintain a foothold in Upper Canada. They occupied Fort Erie which had been fortified over the previous weeks for just such an occasion. The British tried for seven weeks to dislodge the Americans who were receiving help from across the river at Buffalo. The British eventually gave up but the Americans had run so low on provisions they could no longer hold on to the fort and crossed back to U.S. territory.
