Black Hawk's description of white warfare

Black Hawk was a Chief of the Sauk Nation, and a bitter enemy of the Americans. He was quoted as saying, "I have fought the Big Knives and will continue to fight them, until they retire from our lands." When he heard the peace terms the British had signed late in 1814, he wept openly. Distancing himself from the British, he made another attempt at a confederacy that led to the short-lived Black Hawk War of 1832. Black Hawk spent the better part of his life attempting to reclaim his nation's territories.
