Battle of Queenston Heights |
The young son of
Joseph Brant was only eighteen years old when the war began. He was the
nominal chief of the Grand River Iroquois but passed the position on to
the more experienced and influential John Norton.
Brant was present at Queenston Heights,
where he and a fellow warrior almost killed the American General Winfield
Scott. Brant, known in his community as Ah Youwaeghs.
He remained loyal to Norton and the British even after the tragedy at the
Battle of Chippawa. Despite his efforts, the young chief could not persuade
many other Iroquois to continue fighting in the war. |
