Samuel Stubbs
American

At the age of sixty-two,
Samuel Stubbs was quite possibly the oldest volunteer in the American army.
A Kentucky frontiersman, he stood just five feet tall and was expert marksman.
It is said that in the three months before the battle of Queenston Heights,
he bagged forty-five deer. He fought at Queenston
Heights where he was taken prisoner, but was released by the British
because of his age. He went on to participate in the attack at York and
later at the battle of New Orleans,
where he killed several officers. He lived to write a colourful account
of his many adventures. |
