FUNGUS THE BOGEYMAN THE FANTASTICALLY FOUL CHILDREN’S CLASSIC COMES TO CBC TELEVISION THE DIRTY FUN BEGINS SUNDAY, APRIL 3 AT 7 P.M.

Montreal – February 23, 2005 – Galafilm is pleased to announce that the Bogeys are coming to CBC Television in a three- part CBC/BBC miniseries.
Sundays, April 3,10 and 17 at 7 p.m.

Meet Fungus and his smelly subterranean-dwelling family: wife Mildew, and kids Mould and Mucus. They’re s’not any ordinary family. They are the computer-generated Bogeymen, who exist in an underground world of filth and slime—in sharp contrast to the “drycleaners” who live above ground. The “drycleaners” are actually the Whites, a human family featuring George White, wife Jane and kids Jessica and Tom. The clash of these two worlds is at the satiric centre of the classic children’s story FUNGUS THE BOGEYMAN.

The enduring story by Raymond Briggs (The Snowman) has been adapted for television by best-selling author Mark Haddon (Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime). When it premiered in Britain a few weeks ago, FUNGUS THE BOGEYMAN was described as “pure, unadulterated, must-see telly.” It was also written: “It’s a fantastic adaptation. Fungus’s world seems as real and convincing as that of the Drycleaners—it will have both children and parents hooked.”

Fungus lives in Bogeydom, a vast underground world where the peace-loving Bogeys wallow in everything humans find disgusting. Fungus practices ‘bogling’, or scaring humans, but has recently found himself questioning the meaning of it all. Not only that, his son Mould has been alarming his parents by washing regularly, wearing clean clothes and using deodorant. To help deal with these aberrations, Fungus takes Mould on one of his scaring trips. But they break the cardinal rule for Bogeys—they are spotted by a human. When Jessica White sees Fungus and Mould, it puts all of Bogeydom in jeopardy.

Raymond Briggs delightful story of the Bogeymen and the White family has captivated readers for decades, and now the tale comes to television in a visually enthralling miniseries that will appeal to viewers of all ages.

FUNGUS THE BOGEYMAN is directed by Stuart Orme and produced by Ian Whitehead for the CBC and BBC. Executive producers are Arnie Gelbart for Galafilm of Montreal and Dan Maddicot and Michael Haggiag for Indie Kids. Elaine Sperber is executive producer for the BBC.
