CHIEFS
The six-part television documentary series CHIEFS is the saga of the great leaders, warriors and diplomats of the First Nations whose stories form a central drama of Canada and the North American continent. The films, telling the life stories of First Nations leaders Sitting Bull, Pontiac, Joseph Brant, Black Hawk, and Poundmaker, are a blend of documentary and dramatic reenactment, bringing to life the power, spirit and mystery of the First Nations. But the films also seek to separate the myth from the men, to tell the story of leaders who could be equally Machiavellian and magnanimous, men capable of being cruel and foolish as well as brilliant and brave. Together, the episodes of CHIEFS reveal an alternative, and essential, history of Canada and the United States. |
